Our students are our future. They are passionate, capable, informed young people, ready to lead initiatives that support the essential skills of tomorrow – Global Citizenship.
From Malala Yousafzai to Greta Thunberg, we are increasingly seeing that young people are not only willing to take a stand and make a difference in the issues they feel are important, but they are capable of doing so.
One Day Sprints are designed for schools that prefer tackling issues in the format of a one day forum.
Sprint 1: Diversity and Inclusion Challenges students to find ways to support and promote diversity and inclusivity in their school community.
Sprint 2: Tech for Good challenges students to design an action plan using online and digital spaces, such as social media, for an issue they care about.
Design Sprints are offered in person or online nationally from students Grade 5 upwards.
Focus is on students (Ambassadors) designing an action project to address an issue or problem in their school or local community which is implemented across the year and involves regular online catch ups.
Skill development is scaffolded across several sessions held across the school year.
Ambassadors will initially explore and learn about core concepts linked to Global Citizenship to set their projects up for success e.g. The UN’s SDGs, and how to lead inclusively.
Project management skills are explored and developed including Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy.
Creating a podcast series interviewing students, staff and community about their cultural identity.
Partner with community organisations to create and distribute meals, clothes and hygiene bags for the local homeless.
Increase the number of non-invasive flora types and native fauna by planting and maintaining school gardens and caring for native animals.
Creating a school wide waste education program, including bringing ‘nude food’ in lunchboxes.
Interviewing local community members from diverse backgrounds for a dedicated YouTube channel.
Create a social media campaign and blog to address issues of mental health and spread positive mental health messaging.
This program has helped to build bridges between students, staff and parents in many ways. We’ve loved watching the community get involved and support the work of the students.
