Case Study: Teacher Lost, Program Maintained: How Vernon continued their Mandarin Studies with Meg

By Meglanguage | 27 January 2022

Vernon Middle School World Language Academy in Harlingen, TX had a full-time Mandarin teacher at their school. They had worked with Meg Languages for 3 years – having the Meg Mandarin teachers working alongside theirs. When their Mandarin teacher left after the 2020/2021 school year, they knew just what to do. They increased their number of weekly Mandarin sessions from twice weekly to 4 times a week with the Meg Languages team.

Their classroom teacher, Steven Rodriguez, had no prior experience in Mandarin but was eager to dive in alongside his students to not only maintain the Mandarin program but also energize and engage the middle school students. Watch Steven’s interview to learn more about how he supports the program and learns alongside his 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students at Vernon!

“I have been more hands-on with the material, with the notes, and my students… I believe it’s helped me not just learn how the students are learning but also how to respond if they have questions.”
