Global Citizenship: An Introduction

Global Citizenship: An Introduction was developed in response to the demand from educators wanting to find out more about what Global Citizenship is, why it is important, and how can it be developed. It is for educators who are new/newish to the concept of GCEd and want to find out more.

This short self paced Professional Development Course is designed for participants using a practical approach.
It contains four modules, with two to three lessons per module containing practical tips and resources to assist participants with implementing Global Citizenship in their schools and classrooms. Additional resource sheets are included and can be used as reference documents or printed off to complete suggested tasks.

The course is designed in a linear fashion, with content and materials accessed at any time. The course’s key content is designed to take approximately two hours to complete, however, additional materials are included in the Deep Dive sections that are optional for those wishing to take a deeper dive into specific ideas of interest.

At the end of the course, participants will be emailed a certificate of completion for two hours of Professional Development in Global Citizenship Education.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain why developing Global Citizenship is important;
  • Identify the types of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that develop Global Citizenship and;
  • Identify relevant resources and programs that can be used to develop students’ Global Citizenship.

Australia: AITSL Teacher Standards: 2.6, 3.3, 3.4, 3.6, 4.5, 6.2

USA: National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Propositions 1, 3, 4 and 5.

NZ: The Code of Professional Responsibility, 1.1, 4.1, 4.3.

UK: Teacher Standards – Part One: Area 1, 5 and 8.
